What is a CNAME Record and what does it mean?

what is a cloud

A CNAME is an alias for a Domain Name. It maps the domain's IP address to it. There may be one, or several of these for the domain name. Here is a brief overview. CNAME files are important for a variety of reasons. The most important reason is that they can help you distinguish your domain from other sites using the same name.

They point to an IP address

DNS changes the CNAME to point to a new IP address for domains when the domain's IP address changes. This record is also known by the canonical title and is used in lieu of the A record. This type of record is most useful when running multiple services from one IP address. But, the CName records can only point to one host.

A CNAME DNS record refers to a DNS address that points to an subdomain or domain name. It is not a redirection; it simply means that the domain name is associated with the IP address.

They can point to another CNAME Record

CNAME Records point to another domain and are used to resolve DNS questions. You may already have a CNAME Record for a subdomain. But you wish to point it to a different domain. How do you do this? CNAME records are created using a protocol known DNS. This protocol is part o the Internet Protocol Suite. If you use a CNAME Record to point at another domain name, ensure it points to that subdomain's domain root.

CNAME records must not point to any other resource records, such as MX or NS records. This is to prevent indefinite loops in name lookups. Also, ensure that CNAME records do not get used on email domains.

They can share the same name as another CNAME Record

CNAME DNS records are DNS records identifying the hostname for a domain. Unlike A records CNAME records cannot co-exist with other RRs for a same host. It is not recommended to put a CNAME on the rootdomain. It is also considered bad practice to point a CNAME at another CNAME. A records as well as CNAME Records are the most used records. Essentially, both DNS records resolve a hostname to a corresponding IP address.

CNAME records are essential because they allow for multiple domain names to be created. These records allow for greater flexibility in managing Web site addresses and can also be used to avoid conflicts between DNS records. It is important to remember that a CNAME records cannot have the same name as another CNAME.

FAQ

What is a static website?

Static websites are those where all content is stored on a web server and can be accessed by users via their web browsers.

The term "static", as it is sometimes called, refers not to dynamic features such changing images, videos, animations, etc.

This type of website was originally created for use in corporate intranets. It has since been adopted both by individuals and small companies who are looking for simple websites that do not require any programming.

Because static websites require less maintenance, they have grown in popularity. They are simpler to update and maintain than fully-featured websites that have many components (like blogs).

They load also faster than their dynamic counterparts. This makes them perfect for users who are using mobile devices or have slow Internet access.

Also, static websites are more secure that dynamic counterparts. A static website is impossible to hack. Hackers can only access the data contained in a database.

There are two main options for creating a static website.

  1. A Content Management System (CMS),
  2. How to create a static HTML website

It depends on what your needs are. If you're new to creating websites, I recommend using a CMS.

Why? Because it allows you to have full control over your website. A CMS means that you don't have to hire someone to set up your website. Upload files directly to the CMS.

Still, you can learn to code and create static websites. But you'll need to invest some time learning how to program.

Do I need a portfolio to get hired as a web designer?

Yes. You must have a portfolio to be considered for a job in web development or design. Portfolios should showcase examples of your skillsets and experience.

Portfolios typically include examples of past projects. These examples can showcase your abilities. Include everything: mockups; wireframes; logos; brochures; websites and apps.

What HTML & CSS can I use to create my website?

Yes, you can! It is possible with basic knowledge of web design, programming languages like HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), CSS (Cascading style Sheets), and HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language). These languages enable you to create websites that are accessible to anyone with an internet connection.
